Bad Words In Church

I phone33 049I will never claim to be the perfect parent. In fact, I will never even be close. I have failed at so many things, the monster of mommy guilt has a way of consistently rearing her ugly head and pointing her crooked finger at me, even to this day. I know her well now and  no longer cringe when she creeps into my thoughts. Okay, sometimes she still scares me.  But I now have weapons; my kids.

Despite the trials and tribulations of adolescence, and  still on-going puberty, they remain incredibly wonderful people. And I am profoundly amazed that I didn’t break them.

With each child, I believe I became a better parent, or rather I learned from my mistakes, albeit slowly. But I really tried. For the first time in my life that I could remember, I had purpose; I was making people.

My kids have watched every single move I have made good or bad, and listened to every word I have said; every word. I have learned children become amateur mimics around the age of 2, and professionals by the age of 3 to 4. By age 5, they own you. Watch your step and your mouth because there will always be a moment that they will expose you. Children have the innate ability, sweet faces or not, to show what they’ve learned from you in the most embarrassing ways possible.

They will do what you do, unless of course you are eating a vegetable. And they will most assuredly say what you say. I know this because each one of mine have repeated a not-so-great word or two that I’ve inadvertently dropped and they have always managed to repeat these words without fail in front of witnesses.  Lots of witnesses.

Here’s a Quick Thought

What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

pexels-photo-25230How many times have you heard that quote? It is beautiful and incredibly inspirational, yet the thoughts of a looming car payment, overdue bill or difficult life circumstances will quickly snatch it from taking hold inside our heart and soul in an instant.

So I want to ask you to do something. For every single problem, obstacle or fear that you’ve had lying before you in the past that seemed insurmountable, please think; did you get through it? Really think on this for a moment.

You got yourself through it didn’t you? Why? How?

Could it be that despite the appearance of these impossible odds or perhaps even our own poor sense of self or situation at the time, there is something bigger in all of us? Something that can be tapped when we just say to ourselves, “I will overcome, as I always have”.

Believe me, my sense of self has been lower than low. Rock bottom was a higher plane than I believed I would ever be on.  It wasn’t until, I actually thought about all that I had been through and all that I had accomplished along the way, that I began allowing myself to climb once again.

To this day, I still remind myself of this lesson that I was blessed to understand. Sometimes it takes awhile. Life though beautiful is also painfully difficult and at times tragic. Yet we overcome.

We are all going through life with something inside of us, thats’ strength knows no bounds. To bring it to the surface we must first acknowledge its’ existence.

And then we can again; climb.

Enjoy your day.

Puppy Love. It Just Might Be for You.

197HEvery time I see a missing pet post on a pole or in a business window it breaks my heart.  I used to pass them by, briefly thinking how sad it was that a child might be missing their beloved pet. That however was as far as I went. I never truly understood. Until the day my daughter called.

A Mothers Day to Celebrate

It is Mother’s Day and I celebrate.  I celebrate all of my children.

When I became so very ill after treatments, surgeries, and so many hospitalizations, I let myself lose hold of all of my many blessings.  Most importantly; the ones that enabled me to be a mother to my beautiful children.

Becoming a mother happened early for me. I was 19 years old when I was given the news of my pregnancy. I was pretty far along, so it was weeks and an ultrasound tech informed me I was pregnant with a baby boy. Months later PLOT TWIST, I gave birth to a gorgeous baby girl. I named her Ashley Megan and she is nothing even remotely close to boy-ish.

The day she was born changed my life forever. As a child and a teen, I had never believed I was very important. I became important the day I became my beautiful daughter’s mother. I became fierce, focused and resolute that I would be the absolute best mother I could be for this beautiful baby girl.  As far as I was concerned, it was her and I against the world. Ashley & Ben
